Until the middle of the 19th century, the main ingredient of paper was cloth rags and animal skins. Chinese people discover the possibility to do paper from plant fibre and this new process came to Europe.
Nowadays, paper are made from other plant fibre and recycling to reduce the environment impact of our high use.

We used to get paper from animals and silk cloths. These days we depend on left over parts of trees for paper, so we could reduce the consumption of more expensive material.

imagine trying to carry a concrete book around. Paper from trees is the best compromise for what we want in paper. we can however use other plants such as hemp.
