The Ancient Greeks came up with the theory that all matter consisted of many smaller non divisible units ie atoms (the word atom is derived from a Greek word meaning “uncuttable”). It was in the 18th-20th centuries that scientists slowly started proving what an atom was by evidence from experiments.
