drugs usually act on things called receptors which when drugs bind to them cause changes in the body system. like you can increase or decrease peoples heart rate with drugs. Adrenaline will bind to adrenergic receptors to increase heart rate.

A drug will react with proteins/molecules of you body, not necessary receptors. Any molecules that you are taking have a specific action and will interact with different biomolecules. You don’t synthesis drugs to just synthesis drugs. You know your target and you design a drug able to interact with it by inhibition or complex action. Then those molecules will be in general degrade by your body and evacuate.
