        What a riddle! I’m not sure where to begin…. Perhaps a chicken like animal in the past laid eggs but without the calcium rich aspect of the shell that we now associate with an egg…. over time, to protect the growing embryo, the shell being harder was an evolutionary advantage. So my answer would be chicken!
