Just the equipment in my lab is around £250,000….. so labs it can be in the millions! This is excluding chemicals, wages, the building etc…

an infinite amount…how much money have you got to spend. My lab currently over £500,000 just in equipment.

Equipment are really expensive, majority of them cost £30.000 (for the big one) and around £500-£2000 for the small ones, every day consumable cost per month £1000 minimum depend of how big is the group, but the cost of analysis which is per hour and some can be £500 per hours depend how fancy is the analysis, then the rent of the lab, electricity and water (like any flat you rent), plus your salary and the one from your group.

Its enormous if you are doing a full-scale research, also depends on the subject. Chemistry needs a lot of analytical equipments like mass spectrometer to detect the mass of the compounds, Infrared spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) for detecting protons in the molecules, and many more. these are just some basic instruments, and the NMR itself could cost around £ 20,000. Taking into account everything like the chemicals, consumables, it can go over a few million pounds! (But depends on how big your research group is really)
