I don’t have a science idol but Marie Curie would have to be my favourite, she faced many challenges and won two nobel prizes, one in chemistry and the other in physics which is super cool, especially in those times.

James Clark Maxwell is probably the most important scientist ever to be born in Scotland and is undoubtedly responsible for laying the foundations of our modern word by unifying the descriptions of electricity and magnetism. Even Einstein recognised his importance in referring to the giants of whose shoulders he stood.

My science idols are some esteemed female professors in the field of Liquid Crystals: Professor Helen Gleeson OBE and Professor Ewa Gorecka. I would say they are the top female liquid crystal scientists in the world!
