I’d say James Clerk Maxwell… probably the most important scientist to come out of Scotland but little known in his home country. But his work underpins all the devices that we take for granted today.
So many. I like looking at how people where doing research 50-100 years ago, without access to the technology we have. There’s often more people involved than you expect, for example, people think of Watson and Crick for DNA structure, but their work built off of others such as Rosalind Franklin and Florence Bell. Or the team that discovered insulin who essentially gifted their discovery to the world.
I’d go for James Clark Maxwell… Einstein considered him a giant of physics… and without him our modern world of electronic devices and communications would not exist. He’s also a Scot!
I’ve met Mark Miodownik, a science presenter who makes strange materials and talks really engagingly about the importance of ‘stuff’. if you want to look up some videos of him giving talks you’d find an explanation of the broad sort of science I do explained really well!

So many to choose from. Examples range from Marie Curie, Mary Jackson to Faraday and Einstein

Marie Curie as she faced many challenges and won the Noble Prize twice.

My supervisor? 😀 Because he helps me to become a better scientist.
