Actually, most of my inspiration to become a scientist came from my primary and high school teachers. They saw I liked science, was good at it and motivated me to learn more.
I met someone called Katalin Kariko last year. She made the covid vaccine possible with her research. She came from a poor family and throughout her career, she faced lots of negativity about her research and being a woman. But she didn’t give up because she believed in it and in the end she was a success.
Now the people who didn’t support her in the past, happily say they know her and tell a different story.
I thought being this amazing scientist I wouldn’t be able to connect with her, but she was so kind and friendly and talked a lot about her daughter. She was a normal proud mum!
