Every experiment is exciting as you get to learn something new about science.

The most dangerous experiment is did really didn’t start out that way. I was trying to distil a compound that I needed to purify it with another PhD student while I was a student. The substance exploded and we both lost our hearing for a couple of days.

The experiments are all exciting, perhaps the Thermit reaction is one of the most memorable.

All experiments are exciting because you get to learn lots of cool new things.
I work a lot with lasers, so that’s probably the most dangerous. But we wear special glasses that protect our eyes and we are very careful when we work with them.

I have distilled a pyrophoric – a liquid that reacts with oxygen in the air and will burst into flames. To distill I had to heat the liquid very hot and have the flask under vacuum. I was sweating the whole time I did it, but with all things in the lab I did it as safely as possible and nothing bad happened
