I hope that my research will help make new medicines. My work can both directly make progress towards new drugs and it can aid target validation (the process of selecting promising drug targets).
Some of our work has already helped answer a long standing problem in astrophysics as to why the observed rate of star formation is much faster than calculated by the best theories. It’s down to the way water and carbon monoxide molecules arrange themselves on icy grain surfaces in star-forming regions.
In my current role, I hope that young people like yourself will be encouraged to explore a wide range of careers that benefit them and others. To be open-minded, challenge stereotypes, and make a positive contribution to society.
