I love doing experiments and problem solving in the lab. If something doesn’t work, I really enjoying picking the experiment apart to work out where things have gone wrong!
I don’t get to spend as much time in the lab anymore as I have many more responsibilities now. My favourite thing to do was purifying compounds by recrystallisation as you often ended up with big beautiful crystals, which were also very pure.
I don’t get into the lab as much as I’d like but my students spend a lot of time there. When I get the chance to go in and help my students solve problems with the apparatus that we use that’s probably the most fun. It helps the students learn more about our instruments.
I love doing experiments in the lab. It is great when you see results from hours of work. Although also irritating when the experiments don’t work!
I generally plan my experiments at my desk, which means I can relax when I’m in the lab. We also always have music playing in our labs, and there’ll be lots of little chats with others in the lab.
