There is always a lot to do. A good flow of new jobs coming in is good for the company.
It does require some thought and planning to get my tasks done – the better organised you are the easier the job is to complete. Some days require an early start and late finish but these are not the normal.
In research, you may have to work hard to solve a problem – you might have to try a few different approaches, you might need to discuss with other scientists. That can be exhausting too.
I agree with Greame, there is always a lot to do and good planning helps manage the tasks at hand. Sometimes things happen out of the ordinary that can’t necessarily be planned for and requires quick thinking and problem solving. It can be challenging when this happens but there’s generally something useful to learn in these cases.
Yes and no. At a first glance, it looks like there is a lot to do, especially working at a university. However, it is also fun and it doesn’t feel like there are such long hours or hard work.
It is hard work, often you have to motivate yourself and manage your own time which can be challenging. But it’s so rewarding to constantly be learning new skills and techniques!
There is certainly a lot to do – I usually arrive between 8:00 – 8:30 am and I work until around 6:00 – 6:30 Monday to Friday and I’ll do a bit at home on the weekend as well if I have urgent deadlines coming up. It’s very varied work though, and it’s always interesting so I’m never bored or feel like I’m working too hard!
