It’s not hard ‘being’ a scientist. There is always work to do, and problems to solve.
But if you want to control the experiments you do, if you want to research the problems that you personally are interested in rather than what other people want you to solve – it’s a lot of pressure finding the money to support you to do that.
It can be… Not everything works in terms of the science we do and so we sometimes have to put our thinking caps on to try and understand why. That’s easier if there are a number of you doing the same at the same time and bouncing ideas off each other… brainstorming.
Though science can be difficult… I would say it is immensely rewarding and that why I do it.
I think the title ‘Scientist’ makes it sound hard but I am doing what I enjoy so I don’t consider it to be. There is always lots of support from experienced people to help if/when challenges occur.
It’s not ‘hard’ as such. There are some things that you have to think about and there’s lots of problem solving. But I found that this is really where my skillset lies so I find it much ‘easier’ than writing an essay!
