I work as a PhD student and I do lab-based research as my job. It is quite flexible so I get to choose when I do my work. I usually work in the lab 4 days a week and then have 1 day a week planning or analysing my data!
My job is full-time, so I am at the lab or my office Monday to Friday between 09:00 and 17:00.
Each day is a mixture of practical work in the lab, analysing date, writing reports and planning the next experiment.
I work full-time 7am to 3pm, though my company has flexi-time meaning I can start and finish work at times that suit my life as long as I do my full-time hours each week.
Every day.
I get generous holiday every year but I spend every day either in the lab, talking about going into the lab, writing up what I did in the lab or teaching about the skills necessary for doing lab work.
The talking and writing are taking up more and more of my time than the lab does as I get older but it is still the focus of all my attention
I work in industry and have a full-time contract to work 37.5 hours in a week. I try to stick to this as much as I can, but sometimes when we’re busy, I can do a lot more. I usually start between 8 and 8.30am every day and finish between 4 and 5 pm.
I tend to work Monday-Friday, from about 8.30am-5.30pm. There are certain days I need to work longer, and sometimes work spills into the weekend. Academic research (research at a university) is quite flexible though, so I can often find time for a nice coffee break!
