Everything takes dedication but the key thing is that if you like what you are doing, you don’t really think about the time. Of course, you need to put time and effort into your studies and work but really if you are passionate about being a scientist link that passion to another of your interests and you will enjoy your career.

Dedication is needed to achieve your goals, whatever they might be – if you want to become a scientist you will need to work hard to learn the subject matter required, and work on the skills you need to effectively do your job (perhaps practical skills as well!) But as Maryam says, if you enjoy this learning process it doesn’t feel like a chore and in some ways won’t even feel like you’re working!

To do any job well you need to be dedicated. But I think the key thing to being a good scientist is to always remain curious and willing to experiment. This often requires dedication in its own right!

All jobs need some amount of dedication, science is no different. I’d say that there is a certain type of perseverence needed for scientific research, certain experiments can be very annoying and take a long time to get right and not give up, but it’s definately worth if when you get it to work, especially when it’s an important bit of information for a paper or your thesis.

That’s an interesting question. For me dedication can relate to doing something as best as you can, but when I think of science its a passion which I really enjoy so dedication goes hand in hand. If you really enjoy something then dedication can follow.

Being a scientist definitely needs a lot of dedication, but this is the case for any career or goal that you want to achieve. It is most important to choose something that you are interested in and love doing. If you are passionate and curious about something, you won’t mind putting in the hours and and you will enjoy it even if there are challenges.

Doing well in anything requires dedication.

It doesn’t matter if it is playing an instrument, being part of a rugby team, learning a language, or working as a scientist.

I just found that it’s easier to be dedicated doing something I enjoy, so I’m a scientist who plays rugby.
However, I won’t hurt anyone’s ears by having them listening to me speaking French or playing a guitar as those were things I didn’t enjoy.
