I don’t use it personally in my research but I work with colleagues who do and are expert at using gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry to study volatile flavour compounds in food and drink.

Lots and lots and lots of chromatography.
I have lost count of the times that I have run thin-layer chromatography to monitor reactions.
Huge numbers of silica based flash column chromatography to purify compounds.
It has been a while since I used Gas chromatography (GC) but High Pressure Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), is a great tool for checking purity, especially when combined with mass spectrometry (LCMS).
Preparative LCMS is a good way to purify lots of molecules.
Affinity chromatography can be a big deal in biology but even in chemistry, it can speed up purification.
Most recently, I have been using size exclusion chromatography!

Only at university to learn about chromatography and how to use it.

I liked making chemicals more than analysising them
