I have found a few new ways lanthanide compounds interact

Yes, we have found new ways to make molecules. For example, there is a reaction that combines two starting materials and a palladium catalyst to make a useful precursor for a pharmaceutical molecule. We have discovered we can do the same reaction without the palladium but instead shine blue light on the reaction. Palladium is a rare and expensive metal so our method is more sustainable.

Most of the science that my group and I do has never been done before so it is really new. WE sometimes repeat other people work but mainly we push the frontiers of science.

One of the fun things that we found was that the way carbon monoxide molecules arrange themselves in icy solids produces an electric field that can make stars form 5 times faster than previous theories!

Yes I have been part of teams that have discovered new types of liquid crystal phase, some of which might be really useful in new or advanced applications. We don’t fully understand exactly how they form yet and that’s what we continue to work on by making lots of new molecules that can form these new phases!

I have made molecules that have never been made before. Its exciting when you get proof that you succeeded
