I tend to listen to music if I’m working at home. I don’t tend to do so in the office or laboratory as it can be a little too distracting.

Yes, I find it helps me concentrate.

Depending on what I’m doing (task, mood I am in, who is around me) I change the music. Sometimes its metal or rock music, other times I put on video game soundtracks. This often helps me relax – particularly if its just instruments and no one is singing

When you have a communal workplace, getting music to suit everyone can be a struggle.
At my desk, music can help me blank out distractions.
Headphones etc are not a good idea in the lab. There can be all sorts of safety problems if you can’t hear properly.

I do – I think it’s helpful to have a nice soundtrack on in the background while you work. Which songs I choose depend on what I’m doing: in the lab I like an upbeat, poppy soundtrack to keep me motivated but when I’m marking or writing I’ll listen to something a bit more chill.

Not really, although it can be soothing I tend not.

We are not allowed to have headphones in at work – so we can hear the alarms.

I like my music full blast so don’t put it on the office or lab.
