Absolutely I get paid a decent amount to do a job that fascinates me.
I love solving challenging problems and so alot of my current job is fixing things after others have tried and failed.

I really enjoy the job that I do, but I’d say a lot of enjoyment I get day-to-day is due to the people I work with. You spend a lot of your life in work so to me it’s important to not only enjoy the job but also to get on well with the people you work with. It’s probably the people I work with that I like most about my job and working as a team to get to the best solution.

I love what I do – it’s very varied, so there’s never a boring day, and if I’m fed up with one aspect of the job and I just go away and do something else for a day or two! My favourite part is definitely when my research students bring me unexpected experimental results – that’s when the interesting discoveries happen.

Yes, I do. Best advice I got from my father was chose a career you enjoy because you will spend a lot of time doing it! I enjoy many different aspects. I enjoy travelling and meeting other scientists. I enjoying teaching and interacting with students. I like hearing good news from my research group when reactions work as intended!

The freedom to choose what I do everyday. Obviously I have tasks set by my manager but I can do them at my pace. I get to travel which is cool. I have good work colleagues who I can go to lunch with and have some cake at breaktime with.
I get challenged. Everyday is different.

Most of the time! I love that every day is different – I could have a day of teaching or laboratory demonstrating to students, or a day of writing a scientific paper, or a day in my research lab doing practical experiments… it’s never boring! (Unless it’s a day of back-to-back meetings :P)

Yes… I enjoy what I do. Long ago I said that if I stopped enjoying it then I’d give it up and go and do something else instead. What do I like most? That’s easy… it’s finding out new stuff that no-one else knows and then having the opportunity to travel and tell other people about it.
