Having to invent something new and see its applications is the best. The worst is the part where you need to prove yourself – writing papers and competing with others

For me, a bad bit is that sometimes there is a deadline and I have to work very long hours and weekends (drives my wife crazy). The nice bit is that, after that, I can take a long holiday (which makes my wife happy again).

Best bit – You get to manage your own project, study what you like and choose how you spend your time.

Worst bit – Experiments often go wrong or don’t work. And you have to start again!

The best bit is when you have a breakthrough in the lab, and some brand new chemistry starts working well. The worst part is when a student fails an exam on a course I’ve taught!

Always getting to work on new problems if one of the best parts – I’m always learning something new. Filling in paperwork or competing with others for funding are probably the worst parts.

Best bit: contributing to the development of new treatments, which will help people all over the world.

Worst bit: seeing scientists badly treated in the media.

The worst bit is when experiments you’ve spent a lot of time and effort time doing don’t work. The best bit is when you finally discover how to make them work and find out something really interesting!

The best is that scientist enjoys science and the worst is that they forget personal things sometimes, which is an awkward situation that the family members consider.

Best thing: It is a rewarding job and usually you will be doing something you like (Not just a job).

Worst thing: Pay is not as good as other professions.
