As this is not my area of science, I can’t really give you an accurate answer. But it’s something about the earths position to the sun. Earth is on a tilted axis, and at this time of year we’re tilted away from it??? Or something like that I think!

I’m not entirely sure, but as Emma says it’s something to do with the way the Earth rotates and sits on it’s Axis.

As both Emma and Aaron have said, it’s all to do with the tilt of the earth and the fact we have set our clocks back in the UK

Ok so in March when the clocks go forward we are in BST (British summer time) where we move an hour of daylight from the morning to the evening, in Autumn when the clocks go back we are on GMT (Greenwich mean time), normal time as it were so that extra hour of the evening goes to the morning, so you may have noticed it’s a little brighter in the mornings and it’s dark earlier in the evenings! The mornings will keep getting darker until 20th/21st Dec when it’s the shortest day and then they will start getting brighter again after this date.

That’s to do with the earths rotation and the movement around the sun. When it gets to winter time in the UK our country at the top of the earth is leaning in towards the sun so when the earth rotates towards nightime the UK spends more time in darkness extending from 4.30/5.00pm-7/8am
