One of my motivations is making the world a better place if I can even in a small way and the other is to always question what you are being told and to push yourself to find the answers!
If other scientists don’t support you that’s fine, you must always believe in yourself and what you are doing and be determined to complete it no matter what! I was always told the story about Charles Darwin (The scientist who first said that animals evolved from other animals through natural selection) and how even after his famous expedition and discovering all the things he did not one big important scientist believed him or supported him, they thought his work was all wrong and rubbish….they all turned out to be wrong and now everybody believes that what Darwin discovered is fact!
My motivation for my PhD is my dad, he passed away in 2009 and he had a PhD so one of the many reasons I chose to do a PhD is because of him. Very often you won’t get support from other scientists but the main thing is to remember what you’re doing and why you’re doing it and you’ll find the motivation you need from yourself 🙂
I am like Christopher. My motivation is that the research I am doing will help many people who are ill. So, when ever I am having a bit of a down day I remember that and it keeps me going.
My motivation is to try and make a contribution to solving the world’s problems … I really want to feel like I have done my ‘bit’ to help. There is almost always other scientists there to support you, but don’t be afraid to stand up for yourself with an alternative idea if that is what you truly believe in and you can back it up!
