At the moment, as a PhD Student not much haha. Just enough to keep me going with a few treats here and there. Hopefully this will increase in the future 🙂
Though it’s not all about the money, I really enjoy my job and so that’s all that matters to me.
As a PhD student you get a bit of money each month to pay your rent and get some food. But strangely today I found out that at the end of this month it’ll be my last payment (I only get funding for 3 years) so I will officially be getting £0 soon. An incentive to finish soon and get a job!
I’m currently on £16,057 per year, which isn’t much, but it helps that it is tax free. Some PhD students get paid more, some less, it depends on where you live and what PhD scheme you’re on. The pay isn’t ideal, but it’s not very much to live on in London, where I’ve paid rent up to £800 a month, “luckily” now, my rent is £500, still expensive!
As I work for a company and a research group I get paid a salary from two companies which totals £55,000 but I get taxed heavily and twice because of two jobs technically
As a university researcher our pay varies and is a little less than industrial companies pay. Its certainly more than the average in my local area! I think for a first post doctoral researcher position you can expect about £30,000.
