In a PhD you are working on your own project, so you don’t have a lab partner. You do your own work, but what most labs do is they will hold a meeting once a week where you can go and discuss your ideas with the other people in your lab and they can help you if they can and if you need it!

I don’t have a lab partner, but I do have a great colleague who I can go to for advice and discuss results with. Sometimes just talking to others helps you work out what to do!

I don’t have a lab partner, but there are lots of people that work in the same lab as me so it’s really easy to ask for help. And as everyone is working on different projects which means different people have different areas of knowledge, so it’s really useful to speak to everyone and get ideas and help.

Yes they do! They help me out every single day. I have a team of four guys that help me carry out experiments and do my research. Two of the guys actively do work and take results and the other two are in charge of the running of the lab so they make sure we have all the equipment and chemicals we need or that all the bacteria we need to use are alive and have grown.

So you usually work on your own, but if an experiment requires lots of work, you can usually ask someone else in your lab, like another PhD student or post-doc (or even your supervisor) to help you out. But then people can also help you out by just discussing certain experiments, to see where things might be going wrong etc
