        Tough question.
I certainly believe in the historical groups (i.e. the ‘Assassins’, the Bavaian Illuminati, etc.).
I also believe that there are people / organisations who have power / influence over world events, and how we perceive world events, and that in general we (the public) don’t know everything about the causes of some of these situations.

That said, I’m not convinced that there’s a global group who’re running EVERYTHING.

To treat it like a scientist might:
1] Have an idea (in this case, ‘The Illuminati’ exist)
2] Find evidence BOTH for and against this idea.
3] Check your idea against the evidence.

As a scientist you need to be the most critical about your own ideas. You have to make sure that they’re bullet-proof (as much as you can make them anyway) before you present them to other people (because it’s embarrassing more than anything to have someone point out an obvious flaw in your argument).

But healthy scepticism is healthy 🙂
