I’m not but a number of my colleagues are. Who you love should not affect what career you do and the science community is generally very welcoming and inclusive. Indeed there are a number of initiatives and support groups within the Antarctic science community to help LGBTQ researchers which can only be a good thing.
I’m not, but in my experience there are a lot of LGBTQIA+ people within the research community – it’s generally quite an open and welcoming environment for lots of different people. At the University there are people with lots of different genders, sexualities, backgrounds, nationalities and interests, and often their are societies that can help you network and connect with like-minded people too.
I’m not sure what the motivation is for your question. I don’t think that I have ever asked anyone if they are gay.
LGBTQ people in many societies are subjected to discrimination, abuse, torture, and sometimes state-sponsored execution. I believe strongly that sexual orientation or gender identity are fundamental human rights.
