I think this a very good and important question.
The reason I have said workshops and such for South Asians is for two reasons:
      1) Because my PhD research is focused on South Asians it makes the most sense to stick with them for now.
      2) Being South Asian myself I am more in tune with South Asian culture and would be better able to produce workshops and materials that would work for South Asians. I know their language, their traditions and beliefs and thus I can sort of match with them and relate to them and make them feel more comfortable.
I think, just as with South Asians, there should definitely be workshops on dementia for those who identify as African (especially because they too have high rates of dementia) but I wouldn’t feel right delivering those alone as I feel that role would be so much better filled by and lead by an African researcher. They know their cultural needs and they would do the job best. I just simply wouldn’t be able to do it justice.
However, any guidance, materials, programmes and other tips and information I develop for my South Asian workshops, I wouldn’t keep them to myself. I would want to make them available and accessible to absolutely anyone so that a researcher wanting to help any ethnic group could utilise them- they wouldn’t have to start from scratch! All of it would be up for grabs!
I would also love to help them make changes to this stuff to make it more well matched for their groups because science is all about collaborating with your fellow scientists.
I hope this answers your question!
