Hey, thank you for the question. Sleep is a really weird state to be in. Every living animal on earth appears to do it in some form. When we sleep, although we are resting, our brains are really active and doing a variety things. In some stages of sleep the signals given off by your brain even look a bit like when you are awake. We also hallucinate which is expressed through dreaming. All this weird stuff brings with it loads of questions: what is sleep doing? why is it so active? do dreams have a function? Where there are interesting questions there is interesting science to be done!
