From what I know, I don’t think there will be one cure that works for all cancer as it appears that different cancers can be so different, and each person’s body will respond differently and tolerate each treatment in an individual way. I think we will get better at prevention (diet, exercise, smoking, exposure to chemicals) and detection (screening, awareness of symptoms, going to Dr. early) and treatment (improve what we have, improved doses, new treatments, better combinations. All these will reduce the number of people either getting or dying from cancer. I think the most promising areas may be immunotherapy (getting your own immune system to recognise and fight cancer) and individualised therapies (choosing your treatment based on your specific type of cancer or your own DNA which may predict which treatment will work best for you). Or perhaps one of you science students will find the ‘magic bullet’ in your research and will get a Nobel prize for curing cancer 🙂
