• Question: What is the most complicated piece of equipment you have used?

      We have a special cancer scanner for patients here that cost £6 million pounds, it does MRI scanning at the same time as making pictures of radioactive medicines in the patients. Its also very complicated to use so its important to get it right first time

      We use machines called linear accelerators, which are basically a miniature version of the particle accelerators at CERN. these a million pound machines which accelerate electrons up to MEGAvolts for treatment.

      I have used something called a PET/CT/SPECT machine which uses very very complicated physics. It can image a subject in three different ways altogether… very cool stuff
