We use lasers for lots of different reasons. Sometimes we use them to start a chemical reaction or process. For this purpose we use a pulsed laser, this is when the light it makes is squeezed together into a very short time – this makes it very intense! Other times we use lasers to light up our experiment so that we can see what is happening. For this case we used lasers that give out light all of the time (like a laser pointer your teach may use?). Because the laser light is very bright, this lets us see things that are very small with our cameras (10-1000 times smaller than a hair on your head!).
