        It is pretty bright yes!

This is because it reflects the suns light back to us so we can see it and it appears bright. Sometimes the sun and the moon are in the wrong position or are blocked by the Earth so we don’t see the moon or don’t see a full moon.

If you go to a desert, or miles away from towns and cities you will see that stars light the sky – particularly the ones that make up our galaxy The Milky Way. The moon will provide “moonlight” with can help you see. There is “Dark Park” in Scotland that allows you to see this.
We may not think of the moon as bright because we have a lot of LIGHT POLLUTION in towns and cities where we live – orange street lights, and if you live in the UK there is usually a cloud above us blocking the moonlight.
We see the moon because the suns rays, like the ones that light the earth during the day, are bouncing off the moon and reflected (like a mirror) back to earth. But most of the energy is absorbed, which means we can see the moon but it does not hurt our eyes.

The moon is only bright because the light from the sun reflects on it. When astronauts walked on the surface, they reported that it was dark grey, the color of pavement!
