My current research position lasts around another year. If my boss gets her new research grant (fingers crossed!) then I can continue in this job for another 5 years. I definitely want to continue working on speech and the brain for as long as I can, and eventually have my own lab. However, it is good to have experience using different techniques and working with lots of different people, so I might move to another lab in a couple of years. I really love teaching as well, so it would be good to get a lectureship at a good university in about 3-5 years’ time. Research jobs are rarely permanent and only last a few years at a time, but lectureships more often permanent – I’d like that security!
