Question: what techniques do you use to image the brain

Most of my work is looking at individual nerve cells rather than the whole brain itself. These are normally cells grown in the lab, although occasionally I have to use cells which have been extracted from a mouse.

I normally use “antibodies” which bind to specific proteins of the nerve and cause them to glow either red or green. I can then use a microscope to examine exactly where these proteins are.
