I love the fact that science explains things about the world around us. We get answers to questions like “Why do rainbows form?” and “why do objects always fall towards the ground and never up?”

Answering these questions also makes the world a better and easier place. We can no send rocket ships into space. We can carry smart phones with internet access and cameras. We can use dish washers so we don’t have to do the dishes ourselves.

Science improves our lives in so many ways and it’s important to step back and think about what we wouldn’t have or understand without it.

Now it’s an absolute privilege that I’m now a scientist and that I have the chance to contribute to better the lives of the millions and billions of people that will live after me.

That I can make things I can’t even see do what I want them to. It makes me feel powerful :-)!

I love that the world (or in my case the brain) keeps surprising you – the feeling of ‘anything could happen, because no one has tried this before.’ Even if the ‘anything’ often means you have to go back to the drawing board and re-do things in different ways. 🙂 As you get older I think it’s easy to feel that you know the world. Science keeps reminding you that you don’t, and that makes life exciting.
