• Question: do you believe in the singularity ?

      There are people that interpret the singularity in many different ways so I will be careful about saying yes.

      What I do believe is that the capabilities of technology will advance hugely over the coming decades and things will be very different to what they are like now. I think we’ll rely on computers to make more decisions for us because they’ll be able to make better decisions much faster than we can.

      I don’t think computers will take over the human population but people are worried about this and it’s something that we have to make sure we keep on top of to ensure that the continued advances in technology are safe.

      I guess it’s a weird thought that we could make something cleverer than we are. I think it just comes down to careful design, to making sure that put safeguards in place so we stay in control. Saying that, I still think we’re many years away from a situation where we need to get worried.
