Computers at the moment are generally based on silicon microchips, and are thus limited by the size of silicon, so one day we won’t be able to go any faster with a normal computer.

However, there is a new area called quantum computing. The computers we have now store information in things called bits, which can either have a value of 0 or 1. However, quantum computers use things called qubits, which can have way more values than just 0 or 1, and can thus store much more information than bits. These quantum computers could be millions of times faster than our current computers.

There’s a great article about it here: http://computer.howstuffworks.com/quantum-computer.htm
