Our materials are used in various places in an aeroplane. Our films are a moisture barrier, so they are used as a covering film for the thermal insulation system in the fuselage which keeps you wam when the plane is flying at 40000 feet and the outside temperature is -50°C. In the event of a crash landing, this same film covering is flameproof and resists burning: tests have shown it will give you doulble the time to get out of the plane than the films that used to be used.
They are also used in clips and brackets – about 15000 of them on each Boeing 787, and they also hold the overhead lockers and the emergency breathing apparatus in place above your seat. And in future we expect them to be used to make the wings, tail and fuselage, as they are lighter than metals, and more recyclable than the composites used on the Boeing 787 and Airbus A350
