It was mainly the interest in the area of energy transition and the role my company is playing supporting different businesses to decarbonise.

I started as a scientist for research and development in food. But I got sick (I have chronic fatigue syndrome which is very like long covid), so I couldn’t work in the labs. My boss asked me to learn about carbon footprints as it was desk based, we needed some knowledge and I’m good at learning totally new topics. Gradually it became more and more important to the company and the world.
Now I work as a consultant just looking at environmental impacts for a range of companies.

Although I would never say no to a pay rise, but I earn enough to live on comfortably, so my priorities are working with nice people and having fun at the same time.

It wasn’t the only factor, but I really like that I have very nice colleagues in my department and it is great to work with them.

For me it was the specific projects, people, and impact that I felt the new role would have (handily, I was correct!)

I work in solar energy, and I was drawn to this because I really wanted to be using my skills in science to help contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and helping the planet.
Between different solar jobs, I chose this one because it was located where I could keep living with my partner and we could both commute to jobs we wanted.
