We make a very special types of plastics called “polyaryletherketones” or PAEKs. They are very light, very strong, very pure, resist chemicals, resist wear and are unaffected by most radiation. They are recyclable too. They are also very expensive! They are usually used to replace metals, for example to save weight in cars and planes to reduce CO2 emissions. They are used in medical implants to fix people’s spines as well. We make fibres, films, pipes and composite materials (for example carbon fibre composites) from these plastics too. More recently we have started making knee replacements, plates to fix bone fractures and even gears for cars and robots.
