One I am working on at the moment – which is to come up with a new technology for knee replacement surgery. Existing knee replacements have a limited lifetime, are made of expensive metals and many patients are not happy with them. Our knee replacement uses a special type of plastic which is more sustainable than those metals, is less expensive to make, and will literally last the lifetime of the patient. We spent 10 years working with our partners on this before we could start implanting these knees in patients. About 2 years ago we started implanting them in patients and so far over 30 patients have them, and everything is going very well. Before long, we expect that our knee replacements will become widely adopted and millions of people will receive them. If my knees ever need replacing I hope I get ones made from our materials too!

Last year I helped our production site avoid having to throw away catalyst inks with 10s of kilos of Platinum in by figuring out a printing problem

I used to work for a coffee company. Coffee factories are really smelly. We wanted to keep the aroma of coffee in the bean so that the drink smells even better.
The factory and I came up with loads of different experiments to try, including testing if the transport system inside the factory was breaking up the beans and releasing the aroma. So we carried the coffee beans from one piece of equipment to the next. 6 tonnes of coffee beans! And there were stairs.
