My research results in new materials for cars, planes, smartphones, medical implants and lots of other things. In cars and planes, our products replace metals, making them lighter so they use less fuel and emit less CO2. In smartphones, our materials are used in the loudspeakers, so that the speakers can be smaller but still make good quality sound. That leaves more space in the smartphone for the battery. Im medical implants, there are over 15 million people with our materials in their bodies, mainly in their spines, improving mobility and reducing or eliminating pain.
My research doesn’t yet have impact on the world, but the science that I’m working on will help to make the transport industry have a lower impact on the environment
I don’t do research any more. I use the information that other scientists have researched to calculate the environmental impacts of products. So I help the world by helping companies work out how to reduce their environmental impacts
