Question: How do you think the world would be different if cars weren't invented. do you think greenhouse emission levels would be significantly lower or would it still be a huge problem due to other industrial fields. :D
Only about 21% of all CO2 emissions around the world come from road transport – that includes cars, vans, lorries, buses and other road vehicles. Of those, about 70% are due to cars. That means only about 15% of all CO2 emissions come from cars. 85% come from other sources. So to answer your question, without cars, 85% of CO2 emissions would still happen.
I can add to John’s answer that 40% of CO2 emissions come from construction – that is making buildings, roads, schools, factories etc.
I saw an interesting graph yesterday that showed that the global impact due to flying is the same as the global impact of beef.
So our food and our homes also have an impact on the environment, not just our cars. But I wouldn’t be too happy if I lived in a cave and couldn’t eat anything!
as the others have answered, we would probably have found other new ways to pollute and cars make up only a fraction of the damage we do to the environment. Horses also produce CO2 and methane, though fewer people could afford them! The biggest change would be less NOx and particulate matter in the atmosphere, as those are mostly produced by cars and trucks.
I think life would have been so different if there were no cars. It’s hard to say what the level of greenhouse emission will be but I believe that maybe there would have been other inventions that would lead to more or similar emissions.
