  Good question! We test catalysts by seeing how much NO, CO and hydrocarbons they can remove from the exhaust of a car. We pass the exhaust gases through the catalyst and measure how much NO, CO and hydrocarbon goes in, and how much comes out. We can then calculate what percentage of these toxic gases the catalyst is getting rid of.
