I did science a-levels, then studied science at university. I started working in science during a summer break at uni, where I got to do a summer internship in a research group.
There are many more options now, including technical apprenticeships where you can get your degree whilst working and gaining experience and expertise.
i worked with horses and when i went to college to study them we had a really passionate teacher that covered the science modules and i slowly realised that i was probably far better at science than i was at riding horses and science made lots more money. so i changed my plans and applied for university to study biology.
science is a very cross transferable skill to have so these days I’m an analytical chemist and i work with x-ray analysis
I loved science at school, so it made sense to study it at university. I did 2 internships in labs during the summer holiday – one in paint and one in pharmaceuticals. I realised how much I enjoyed doing it.
Then once i finished university I looked around at the huge range of jobs that I could potentially do. My first job I got when I only applied for the interview practice! But the people were lovely and the work really interesting so I stayed.
