I enjoyed science and had keen teachers and so I guess I probably chose to spend more time on it beacuse of that. I did generally do well at school – I was lucky that it suited me – but I didn’t always get my best marks in science, but well enough to do the courses I was interested in. I wasn’t the best in practical lessons and so had to work more on those parts.

I have friends who didn’t do so well at school and sometimes had to retake exams etc. and still went on to work in science. Some colleagues at my work place did degrees in History or Geography and now work in a science and technology company. I’ve also worked alongside people who started out on apprentice schemes or got jobs in science without a degree and learnt on the job. Science is such a broad area there are many ways to shape your own career depending on your interests.

I did yes. I enjoyed school and really wanted to learn everything. I’m also good at exams and got As at GCSE and A-level.
But not all of my colleagues were academic. Some came through apprenticeships or started an unqualified helpers in the lab and worked their way up.

I did quite well at school, and work quite hard, but I would say I didn’t realise what “work really hard” means until I went to uni.

i did well in my GCSEs, then A-Levels and Uni were a very different ball game and it was then i understood what hard work really was! with so many options now, grades aren’t everything to a career in science, i know many people who have taken the apprenticeship route and that enables you to work in the industry whilst gaining qualifications and be paid for them!

I did fairly well at school, and I think I wish I had worked harder/smarter at the time. I didn’t get the best grades, but I did well enough to get where I am today
