I recently worked in testing embryos ( baby cells created in the lab by combining mom’s eggs and dad’s sperm) for genetic abnormalities called aneuploidies.
Normally each human cell has 23 pairs of chromosomes other than the gametes ( egg and sperm) which have only 23 chromosomes each. When a cell has any change in the chromosome number, either an increase of decrease it is called aneuploidy.
Aneuploidy is considered to be a huge cause for miscarriage, so I was researching about a technique called pre-implantation genetic testing where about 4-5 cells are taken from the embryo and studied for its genetic makeup and then only normal embryos and put into the mom’s uterus to hopefully make a baby!
