Hi Sophie, thanks for the question.

The reasons I signed up for I’m a Scientist is a little bit of 1, a little bit of 2 and a little bit of 4.

I love talking about science, I think more people should be able to pursue a career in science so that we can work to make the world a better place, and finally a couple of my friends have taken part before and they said it was really good fun!

The hardest part of signing up was trying to think of something useful and fun to do with the prize money!

      Hi Sophie,

Well 2 is my reason realy. I think we are all very deserving of money, and it would be nice to win, but not my main objective.
I see very few people thinking of science or even computer science as a career. Out of that very small number even fewer women are thinking about it as a career. I would like to make a small difference hoping that more people will not write it off as boring, too hard or geeky for example, as a career.

      My “another reason”
I want to see all the interesting questions asked on here. It is great to have questions that make you think about where you work and why you do it.

      Haha!

It’s both 1 and 2! I love answering questions AND I think it’s really important to encourage kids to think about science as a job. If we weren’t here to tell you all about the cool and interesting stuff that you can do with science, then you’d all just want to be football players or popstars – which isn’t really very useful!

      Hi Sophie!

My reasons for signing up for ‘I’m A Scientist, Get Me Out Of Here!’ are:

      – A bit of 1) because I enjoy talking about science and about my work.

      – A bit of 2) because I think that learning what scientists really do in their day-to-day jobs is interesting and it may make you more attracted to science. If in addition to that I manage to make you think about taking up a career as a scientist, then… mission accomplished! 🙂

      – A bit of 4) because I am interested in knowing what students think about science and what scientists could do in order to improve their communication with them.

Then, of course, the money prize to further spread the joys of science will not do any harm! 😉

      Cheers

      Hi Sophie,

for me it is mainly because of 1 and a bit of 2.

I talk to other scientists like me all day long in my office, but I rarely have the chance to talk to young people like you about science.
That’s why I am so interested in listening and answering to your questions/opinions/concerns about science.

I also like the idea that I can help to make more young people like you to think about taking up a career as a scientist, but it is not only that. I think it is important that young people, whatever will be their career choice one day, know more about what scientists actually do in their labs/offices and how our life quality and future can be positively affected and improved by science and scientists’ works.
