I suspect Hugh might have the best advice here but I would say that you have to go into it for the right reasons – you have to want to help people – because I think it is a very stressful job with a lot of responsibilities.
That being said, helping people through illnesses and difficult times in their lives can be very very rewarding. I hope you go on to do very well in the future!
My sister has just graduated and is in her third year as a doctor. I have just asked her.
She says to enjoy it and get work experience in nursing homes and any where you can. It helped her to get a place at university and ensured she enjoyed what she was planning to do as a career.
My advice is do well at school, especially in the sciences! Then you need to choose A-levels like Biology and Chemistry. You don’t just have to do science though – many doctors are good at other things too. It helps to be well rounded, and to have a hobby you can do at home to take your mind off all the things you see as a doctor.
There are lots of good medical schools in England and your parents can help you choose one to apply to when you are older.
