The strangest question I’ve ever been asked is ‘How do you know your particle accelerator produces light and X-Rays, and not some other form of undiscovered radiation?’
It’s only strange because the man believe my explanation.
I think a strange question is a good question it makes you think about the world in a different way. Even if it is just to try and explain to the other person the answer, or at least my attempt at an answer.
I like the one on one of our open days where someone commented about how clean Diamond is…. Is that because of the vacuum, this related to the fact that in our accelerator the electrons are kept in vacuum so they do not collide with other particles. Not as a way to keep the place clean.
your question is quite strange by the way.
No one has ever asked it to me before 😀 😀
Let me think……
no, I can’t remember any specific strange question, but what I remember it is that strange questions usually come from people who are new (or relatively new) to the subject you are discussing. That is not bad at all. Sometimes, the thoughts of those who do not know the subject of the discussion very well are not limited by the “knowledge” of that subject and
their mind is more free to work and can take unexpected paths.
So those people can come up with very strange but intelligent questions which can also trigger very clever ideas. Those can be people like you who ask question to us about our work.
Come on Eddie, ask me some very strange question and we might end up making a great invention!!
